“Find Out” embodies the cyclical nature of one’s own questions and thoughts, with a noticeable reverence for kirtan chants and Middle Eastern classical music, in its repetitive refrain. Abby Ahmad boldly, yet tenderly, announces her desire to root and grow with her audience, as the music and images sprout from their intimate core.
The video explores several personal themes, whereby Ahmad summons her heritage – wearing a Palestinian Thobe passed down by her paternal grandmother alongside explorative play with Matryoshka nesting dolls from her Eastern European Jewish maternal grandmother. These identifying cultural folk objects of significance wade in similar themes of maternity and nurturing, which Ahmad offers to herself and her listeners. Shot in her childhood rural Pennsylvania home-come-studio in which “Find Out” and much of her new album, Tea With Shadows, was recorded, all the visuals are intentionally set in the darkness of the forest with the intensity and the fuel of fire as a healing and purifying presence, a constant visual reminder as the song unfurls and Ahmad’s vocal refrains urge listeners to join her on the journey.
“Find Out” is the exploration of the self and its shadow.
