“Mémé – la. Ek meng Zilo?” or “Grandpa, What’s your name?” is a moving short documentary set in a remote Himalayan village. The film follows Mémé-la, a 72-year-old man who is the last remaining practitioner of a 700-year-old pottery tradition. Through Mémé-la’s personal stories and reflections, the documentary delves into the rich cultural heritage of this ancient craft. Mémé-la laments that most of the village’s youth are unaware of this tradition, highlighting the disconnection between generations. This evocative film pays tribute to the disappearing legacy of traditional craftsmanship and ancient arts, many of which are fading into obscurity without recognition.
