This movie is based on a true story.
The story spans from the 1960s and 1970s to the 1920s. 1968, Lu Dongmei, a Beijing girl in her early twenties, graduates from medical school and is assigned to work in a hospital in a remote county in northern Shaanxi Province. The trajectory of her life changed dramatically. After struggling and making painful choices, the young Lu Dongmei finally integrates into this loess land. The movie takes Lu Dongmei as the main narrative line, interspersing and connecting her fifty years of life with her memories. She and the first local she met, Ma Pingwa, became brother and sister, establishing a warm and intimate relationship that she could not part with in her life; she met Li Baoguo, who was also a Beijinger and became the earliest leader in her medical career; she met her life partner Gao Shengli, who gave her care, consideration and infinite tenderness. …… Fifty years have passed, Lu Dongmei left her best years on that loess land, and her life story is intertwined with the people on the land.
